Creating Fulfillment in a Changing World

Issue #6 | December 2009

“Find Purpose the means will follow.”

-Gandhi

“In a time of crisis we all have the potential to morph up to a new level and do things we never thought possible.”

-Stuart Wilde

Most of us have been impacted in one way or another with the changing economic conditions. For many of us, that can be a challenging reality, leaving us with feelings of uncertainty and insecurity.

However, during such times, there also exists the opportunity to explore other serendipitous and magical experiences that can occur in our quest for inner peace and serenity in these difficult times of economic recovery.

The magic comes when we are willing to let go of our need to know the outcome in every situation. This allows us to focus our attention on the things we have power over, such as: creating meaningful memories; living fully in the moment; taking time to enjoy the simple pleasures of time spent with family and with ourselves. In the past, we may have neglected to value these simple treasures. We have come to realize that there is no certainty in what the future may hold!

To change how we view the present and look at the future with a sense of calmness and confidence is the key to discovering inner peace, regardless of the ever changing external world conditions.

yogaworld

We can pause to notice the little things that fill our hearts and create a sense of tranquility inside. There is a wonderful metaphor which talks about the center of the cyclone in which there exist a state of stillness and calm. While simultaneously the swirling exterior of the cyclone is destroying everything in its path. We need to be able to retreat to that calm center within ourselves when it appears as though everything is being turned upside down around us. In my experience, that is the only place where true peace can be found.

Here are some of the things I have discovered which give me a sense of fulfillment and appreciation for the ever changing conditions around me:

  • A child’s laugh
  • Looking in my children’s eyes with love and admiration
  • Reaching out to friends and family for no reason to ask if they need anything or just to tell them how much they are loved
  • My home
  • My husband
  • Fixing a great meal for my family
  • The unconditional love from my dog, Tux
  • Nature
  • The smell of fresh air
  • Great wine
  • Helping others
  • Knowing my true self
  • Teaching Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Writing
  • Reading inspirational books
  • Laughing with friends
  • Reconnecting with old friends
  • Meeting a new friend
  • Looking at a stranger with love and admiration
  • Dancing
  • Admiring Art
  • Coming together with my husband and family to create solutions to our current challenges and creating a closer bond
  • A quiet still moment to just BE!!

Take time to write your list and know that you can refer to it any time you forget what brings real peace, joy and fulfillment to your life.

Finding Balance and Fulfillment in a Changing World

Date: December 14, 2009
Time: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Location: Park City Yoga Studio
Directions: Click here

A life in balance is something that many of us strive for and, yet seems to elude us. At just the moment when life feels like its “balancing out,” something happens to throw it off. Some of us continue our pursuit of balance; some throw in the towel; and others never bother with life balance in the first place.

Life balance is not a permanent or absolute state. It’s actually a state of mind where you make continuous small adjustments to achieve fulfillment. It is dynamic and elusive. The good news is that you can become aware of where your life is unbalanced and take steps toward improving it.

This workshop will help you to discover:
1 – how life balance is all about the choices you make.
2 – how to make micro-adjustments that are needed to continually keep moving towards balance and fulfillment.
3 – how to explore current state and desired state, look at the choices you are making identify obstacles that may be preventing you from achieving balance and the resources to help you get there, and set a plan to move toward balance.

Terry Sidford has a varied background that ranges from medical field, sales and marketing, customer service, Pilates instructor and realtor. She is now a trained life coach, writer, workshop facilitator and speaker. Through her business, Create Your Life Coaching, she helps people fulfill their potential and regain their passion in life.

Look for the Opportunity in Everything!

Issue #5 | November 2009

“With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.”

-Wayne Dyer

After looking back on my life as a whole, I have realized that the painful and difficult periods were actually OPPORTUNITIES!  At the time, I perceived them as bad or I wished they weren’t happening. But now I can see that during those times, I was able to grow and learn. Now, I can honestly say, I am thankful for those experiences and I am thankful they happened!

Be aware, in present time, that the current situation likely reminds you of another time in your life that wasn’t fair or that you didn’t think you deserved. At that moment, you have a decision to make. Will you see this as a time to grow or will you let yourself be affected negatively? Force yourself to dig deep within and find your strengths. There is something amazing about going through difficult situations and coming out better on the other side!

I am not telling you to look for bad things to happen. What I am telling you is - look for the opportunities in the situations and events that do happen.  Realize that the worst thing that can happen is that you will be stronger and you will learn from the perceived mistake.

opportunity

Every minute of every day, you have the ability to choose. In every situation, you can chose how you want to respond! My advice is, always choose to be better from anything that comes your way. Taking the high road always wins in the long run. Gaining the knowledge that you can rise above anything and get back to yourself is the most empowering experience you can have.

Even if you lost everything, you would still have the essence of who you are, and that is priceless.

Exercise:

Take a moment and look at the times in your life that were a challenge. Try to see them with a new perspective. Did they actually make you a bigger, stronger, better person?

If you have been holding onto events that are still negatively affecting you, take a moment and see if you can let it go. Realize that you are stronger for having been through it. See if you are ready to let go of the story that has kept you from looking at what is available now – in present time.

Choose to look at things differently and start over every day!! Be ready to wake up every morning with excitement and passion, feeling purposeful and fulfilled. This is possible if you show up every moment with your true brilliance, gifts, talents and the intention to live life today, looking forward, not in the past.

Beauty Starts on the Inside

Issue #4 | October 2009

Recently, I participated in a make-over program in Salt Lake City, Utah. Women from around the state sent in biographies and letters explaining why they believed they should be chosen for a make over. We were looking for a candidate that was excited and willing to make real changes in her life – starting from the inside and working out! Included in the make over was Life Coaching, a health and exercise program, tips for healthier skin and hair, makeup and many other services.

Out of all the services provided, Life Coaching proved to have the most impact. After just three sessions, I was able to help her regain her inner beauty and happiness. She discovered who she is and discovered what a gift that provides others in her life.

I found through coaching that I could never feel and be beautiful on the outside until I could feel and be beautiful on the inside”, she said.

Read these thoughts on creating beauty from the inside out and think about how you can apply them to your life:

  • A beautiful person is one who values themselves mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Beauty is the total impact of all these aspects.
  • Mind and body are inter-related; the state of one reflects the state of the other.
  • Inner beauty is more a part of us than mere body and mind; it is indestructible.
  • To be a complete person, you have to work not only on your outer beauty but first develop your inner beauty.

Here are a few things that are considered inner beauty:

Loving

Compassionate

Honest

Intelligent

Graceful

Forgiving

Non-judgmental

Peaceful

Sensitive

Kind

Confident

Creative

Take a moment and list your inner beauty qualities and share them in the comments section.

I put my trust into Terry’s expertise and was able – with her coaching, and my openness – to find the root of one of my behaviors that has disabled me from being my true self…and being true to myself. She has a gift that makes me continuously think about me and my actions, what I want out of my life, and tools on how to achieve my goals and true happiness. Terry has reminded me there is no external beauty without internal happiness and peace with who you are. I am very grateful to the tools and gift of a new life she has given me…

- Diane Mark

Inner beauty has, is and always will be there. You just have to decide to let it shine through.

A Purposeful Life

Issue #3 | September 2009
A Purposeful Life

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain
place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.

-Wayne Dyer

What is a purposeful life?
How do you find and live your true, authentic purpose or calling in life?

There are many different ways to answer this question. But I would like you to consider living a life that you design – one that includes your own unique values, goals, passions and desires!

Design and live this life and you will be living
according to your deepest calling.
You will be living “A Life of Purpose”.

You may think you have this all figured out and I hope you do! But to be sure, take a moment and reflect on your true values, calling or purpose. Make sure you were the one who made those choices. Make sure it wasn’t someone else like a family member, colleague or even someone that inspired you. If it wasn’t you, you could be living the appearance of a life purpose or what I call an inherited purpose. You grew up thinking that this was what will bring you happiness!

When you are living true to who you are as a being, which is what you were born with, it is very different than living according to an inherited purpose. When you notice the difference you will have complete confidence in your true authentic purpose.

You will learn to recognize when your heart is not singing.

When you will feel yourself moving away from ease, passion, and joy
you will know you are moving away from your true purpose.

Tips to Uncovering Your True Purpose or Calling:

  1. Recognize that this being existed when you were born. It is your essence.
  2. Think of moments in your life when your heart was fully alive, when you felt unstoppable, content in the moment, full of energy. You had not a worry in the world, you were relaxed and at peace. These are glimpses of your true self, write down a list of these moments, beginning with your childhood.
  3. Notice all the values you were honoring in those moments. These are your core values, your essence, what you came into this world with. They are not what others have told you YOU are! You may have been planting a garden and singing or spending time out doors being connected to the earth. Listen for the essence involved with these values. Your true values will make you feel alive and bring you excitement and it will feel familiar.
  4. List your top 10 values in order of importance. Some examples are: listening to music, helping others, doing art, being with family, cooking, gardening, honesty, integrity, adventure, authenticity, laughter, work, play.
  5. Look at your life as if you were at the end looking backwards and you lived your life with purpose. You had no regrets, just contentment for how you lived your life fully.
  6. Write down how it looked, what values you honored, what your essence was.
  7. Visualize your true purpose. What would the vision be if you had unlimited time and money to create it?

Create a Life Purpose Statement

Fill in the blanks below and remember this is a work in progress!  You will always be adding or deleting areas of your vision of your Life Purpose.

I am the ___________ that impacts other by____________.

Examples:

  • I am the river that flows to others with admiration that allows them to be powerful.
  • I am the light house that shines a path for everyone to see where they want to go.
  • I am the soft lyrics that sooth the soul and awaken peoples’ spirit.
  • I am the wind beneath your wings that give you the ability to fly and be your true authentic self. (This was my original life purpose statement.)

Read your Life Purpose Statement daily and change it if the words are not engaging you and complete the correct description. Make it a fun project that can take a day to months to create.

  1. Create a collage that represents your Life Purpose Statement.
  2. Find a place to that will remind you of your statement. Especially if your Inherited Purpose starts to show up instead.
  3. Tell others what your life purpose is and connect with people that will support you in living the purpose.
  4. Help others to start looking at what their true purpose is and support them.

As your Life Coach, it is my desire to help you create a vision for your life. That is an integral part of creating your true authentic self and living your life with purpose.

Authentically Yours!

Who has inspired you?

This weekend my 14 year old sons team won a  soccer tournament! They have been playing together for four years and for the most part they played as individuals.

They just hired a new coach who  was able to create a real team that learned to trust each other.  As a result, they won five games in route to the championship. He inspired them to raise the bar:  in every day life how can we inspire each other to raise the bar? Who has inspired you to push past your perceived limits and what was the result? Terry

The Power of Acknowledgement

Issue #2 |  August 2009

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

-Albert Schweitzer

One of the easiest yet most powerful tools we all possess is the ability to acknowledge others. Why, then, do most of us forget to do it or not do it very well?

Maybe the fact is we don’t realize what an amazing impact it can make on both the giver and the receiver.

It all starts with the ability to acknowledge our own accomplishments, instead of focusing on what we haven’t accomplished or still need to accomplish.

Here’s a challenge for you right now…

Take a moment and write down ten amazing things you have accomplished. Then write down what you notice about the impact you make on the lives of others.

After receiving that amazing boost in energy for acknowledging yourself, start to look at people around you and consider what you would like to acknowledge about them.

Start with family, then extend to friends and associates, and finally to strangers and feel the magic begin!

The key is to be 100% authentic in your acknowledgements. Start with simple things like “you have a beautiful smile” and then onto  “you have an amazing essence about you and I light up being around you”. Those are just a few hints to get you started.

Here are some other key elements to authentic acknowledgements:

  1. Be in present time without distractions.
  2. Have full eye contact.
  3. Continue eye contact after the acknowledgment to make sure they really got it.
  4. Don’t add anything but the acknowledgment.
  5. Make it simple and to the point.
  6. Make sure it comes from a place of genuine caring and admiration for the other person.
  7. Be empathetic and compassionate.

Relationships

When any relationship is strained, the first step to get back into communication is to acknowledge the person. Here is a wonderful process that you can use with your partner or children.

  • Start out by obtaining permission to do this process with the other person.
  • Take 10-15 minutes each to tell one another what is not working for you in the relationship. The receiver of this communication simply acknowledges they got the communication.
  • Take 10-15 minutes each to tell the other person what you want to acknowledge them for, i.e. “I want to acknowledge you for….”  Again, the receiver of this communication simply acknowledges they got the communication.

You will be amazed how powerful this is and how it brings back the love and communication between two people who were not in good communication.

Acknowledge Others

Find 10 people this week to acknowledge with genuine compassion and look for the miracles that will be created in them and within you.

Please share your thoughts.

With love and admiration,
Terry

Why wait to acknowledge people??

This week after watching the memorial for Michael Jackson I was moved by the

fact that he made such a difference in so many lives old and young and he made

transition from this life without knowing the spectrum of admiration so many

people had for him.

Why do so many of us wait until it is too late? I started living more in the moment

with gratitude this week and appreciation for those who make an impact on others

by extending love and compassion .

I would like to challenge each of you to acknowledge the ones you love NOW not

later.
